The Builds

Three trucks. Two events. One shop. Each build is its own documented series — engineering decisions, fabrication, setbacks, and results, all on camera.

01
Termite Damage
1965 J200 Pickup
Pro-Touring Road Course Autocross

A $3,000 basketcase transformed into a pro-touring competition build. The rust stays. High-end suspension geometry, chassis work, and brake upgrades on a platform almost nobody has seen built this way.

Project J10
1982 J10 Pickup
Overland Drag & Drive 4200 Swap

Daily driver being built for Drag and Drive. Already running a 2002 Vortec 4200 Atlas DOHC I6 — a largely undocumented swap in the FSJ world. The retroactive documentation alone is a full series.

Overland Drag & Drive 4200 Swap

Twin build to the J10 — same Vortec 4200 / 4L60E spec, refined and improved. Running parallel with the J10 to compare both platforms side-by-side. The second-generation swap.

What We Do

Engineering & Manufacturing Services

Custom work requests accepted. If a part doesn't exist, is unavailable, or isn't good enough — we design and build it. Also available for general CNC machining, design services, and reverse engineering work.

CNC Machining

Precision CNC and manual machining for one-offs and small production runs. Metals and engineering plastics. Tolerances to print.

Reverse Engineering

NLA or poor-quality parts measured, modeled, and improved. If you can send us the original, we can recreate and often upgrade it.

Engineering Design

Design services for custom brackets, mounts, adapters, and mechanical systems. CAD-to-part with full documentation available.

Prototype Development

Concept to functional prototype. Iterative design and testing in-house, with an eye toward eventual small-run production.

Shop Equipment Design & Build

Custom tooling, fixtures, and shop equipment fabricated in-house. If it needs to be better than what's available commercially, we build it.

Describe Your Project

Not sure if it's something we can help with? Send a brief description and we'll respond with an honest answer, not a sales pitch.

Responses typically within 48 hours. We're a small shop — we'll be straight with you about capacity and lead times.

About DMD

Diversified Mechanical Design

Thirty-plus years of machine work, engineering design, and reverse engineering — now with a purpose-built shop to do it properly. The DMD Garage channel documents the work as it happens: real builds, real problems, real solutions.

The company name has always been Diversified Mechanical Design because the work doesn't fit in a single box. Classic Jeeps are the current focus. Before that it was other platforms. The through-line is the engineering approach — if the part doesn't exist or isn't good enough, you make a better one.

Based in North Carolina. Three-year personal shop build just completed, housing CNC and manual machining equipment. Custom work requests accepted — see the services section.
